Notes: Parking is by permit only at The Calvert! While there are visitor spaces, they are at a premium, and parking at the shops is STRICTLY at your own risk. Unmetered street-side parking is available on both sides of Mount Vernon Avenue. Click above for detailed directions and parking tips. Don't forget my apartment number! You will need it for the entryway security system - it does not look up by name. My apartment is also accessible by public transport -- take the Metro to the Pentagon, then grab a 10A bus from the Pentagon Bus Terminal; or, take the Metro to Braddock Road and grab the 10A (to Pentagon) or 10B (to Ballston). Use the Metro Ride Guide for more details. If the weather permits, you can walk to my place through beautiful Del Ray from Braddock Road Metro - it's about a 30-minute walk. Exit the Metro station and turn right, then Right on Braddock, then Right on Mount Vernon; straight through Del Ray to The Calvert at 3110 Mount Vernon Avenue. |
From DC Via I-395:
Take 395S to the Glebe Road exit (Exit 7), following signs to Glebe Road (not to Shirlington). Turn left onto Glebe Road southbound, following South Glebe till the stoplight at Arlington Ridge Road/Mount Vernon Avenue. Turn Right onto Mount Vernon Avenue. Head one mile (passing through the light at East Glebe Road). The Calvert Apartments are two blocks up on the right.
From Alexandria and points South via Route 1:
Take Route 1 North, turning Left at East Glebe Road. Follow East Glebe to the light at Mount Vernon Avenue. Turn Left onto Mount Vernon. The Calvert Apartments are two blocks up on the right.
From I-66 and points West:
Take I-66 Eastbound to exit 75 (Rt 110/395). Merge onto Route 110 and follow it past the Pentagon. Merge onto Route 1 Southbound (Crystal City) . Travel through Crystal City and pass the Potomac Yard shopping center on your left. Turn Right on East Glebe Road. Follow East Glebe to the light at Mount Vernon Avenue. Turn Left onto Mount Vernon. The Calvert Apartments are two blocks up on the right.
From I-95 and points North:
(Note, this is the simpler way but not necessarily the quickest.)
Take I-95 South to I-495 West (exit 27, toward Silver Spring). Follow I-495 over the bridge into Virginia. As soon as you cross the river into VA take exit number 43-44 toward GEORGE WASHINGTON MEMORIAL PKWY/GEORGETOWN PIKE. Stay to the RIGHT on the ramp and take the GW Parkway South (you are on the GW Parkway for about 6-8 miles). Take the exit for I-395 South (right on the ramp) and merge onto 395 (as you merge, the Pentagon will be on your left). Follow 395 South for about 2 miles to exit 7 for Glebe Road. The ramp splits, you should stay to the RIGHT. At the END of the ramp, turn LEFT at the light onto Glebe Road South. Turn left onto Glebe Road southbound, following South Glebe till the stoplight at Arlington Ridge Road/Mount Vernon Avenue. Turn Right onto Mount Vernon Avenue. Head one mile (passing through the light at East Glebe Road). The Calvert Apartments are two blocks up on the right.
Parking Tips and Finding my Apartment
The Calvert Shops and Apartments are located at 3110 Mount Vernon Avenue, just off the intersection of Mount Vernon and Glebe. If you've been to the Birchmere, you've been very close by! If you've been to Bombay Curry Company, you've been to my building! In front of the building are brown signs reading "The Calvert", as well as a large sign on the side of the building reading "The Calvert - 3110". It's a tan brick building, 15 stories tall with alternating balconies.
All parking lots at The Calvert are permit-only. Parking in the shops and restaurants lot is at your own risk! Towing is enforced, and the times have been unpredictable in the past. Parking on Mount Vernon Avenue is not restricted so if you can find a space on either side, take it!
No matter where you park, you'll need to be sure you have my apartment number, 506, to dial at the entryway security pad.
Once you arrive and park, there are several doors to the building:

Main Entry: On the level above the shops and restaurants, next to the leasing office, you'll see a glassed-in vestibule. Enter the vestibule. Dial 5-0-6-call from the call box for entry. The elevators are straight ahead on the right.
- Ground Floor Entry: On the level with the shops and restaurants, between the Pho King and Pizzaiolo Italian Restaurant. Dial 5-0-6-call from the call box for entry. The elevators are straight ahead on the left.
Ride the elevator to the 5th floor. Exit the elevator and turn Left, and my apartment is the first door on the Right (#506).
All of this is far less complicated than earlier years at my old apartment, as those of you who have been there can attest!
